LiDAR volume measurement technology is a high-precision 3D spatial measurement technique based on laser ranging principles. It works by emitting laser beams and receiving reflected signals to calculate the distance and azimuth of target objects. Combined with the motion data of the scanning mechanism, it constructs a 3D point cloud model of the measured object.
With features like non-contact measurement, millimeter-level accuracy, and strong anti-interference capability, this technology is particularly suitable for volume measurement needs in complex environments like mines. The system typically consists of LiDAR sensors, AI cameras, algorithm boxes, and data processing software. Through multi-sensor fusion algorithms, it enables real-time volume measurement in dynamic scenarios.
1. Volume Measurement for Ore Transport Vehicles
Traditional manual measurement or weighbridge weighing methods suffer from low efficiency and susceptibility to fraud. By installing fixed LiDAR scanning systems at mine entrances/exits, the equipment can complete 3D modeling of truck beds in 2-3 seconds as vehicles pass through, accurately calculating the volume of loaded ore. Combined with ore density parameters, it automatically generates weight reports and synchronizes them to the management system. For example, an iron mine using this technology increased daily vehicle inspections from 80 to 300, controlled measurement errors within ±1.5%, and eliminated the risk of human data tampering. The system also detects abnormal states like incomplete bed lowering to ensure transport safety.
2. Inventory Management for Stockpiles
Mine stockyards often face challenges like irregular pile shapes and high dust interference. Fixed LiDAR scanning devices can perform fully automated scans of stockpiles periodically, generating high-precision digital elevation models. By comparing scan data from different periods, it not only calculates inventory changes but also analyzes stockpile collapse, weathering losses, and other conditions. An application case at a large coal mine showed that using a mobile LiDAR scanning system increased inventory efficiency by 5 times, improved inventory data accuracy from 85% to 98%, and enabled optimized stockpiling strategies to reduce quality degradation from oxidation. 3. Slope Monitoring for Open-Pit Mines
Regular LiDAR scans establish slope deformation trend models, triggering automatic warnings when centimeter-level displacement is detected. After blasting operations, it quickly assesses blasting effects and calculates the volume of loose ore.
